ABC Au Pairs Useful Tips

Skype Interviews

The host family and the prospective au pair, once they have viewed each other’s profiles, will set up a Skype chat to get to know each other and decide whether they would be a good match for each other. Here are some pointers to bear in mind when preparing for the Skype:

  1. Be reliable! Ensure you agree a mutually convenient time for the interview and stick to it. It is disconcerting for either party if arrangements have been made and then one party does not show up. If you cannot stick to the arrangement, make sure you email to re-arrange.
  2. Be prepared! Read the profile of the family / au pair before the chat and have some questions ready. Make sure you give as much information about yourself as you can and also be clear about what you are looking for in an au pair / family placement. This is not really an interview but a chance to get to know each other so that if you choose each other, you feel confident that you have made the right decision.
  3. Be consistent! If you choose each other …. congratulations! Make sure from this point on, you keep in touch to start building the bond….don’t go quiet on each other!
