Au pair holidays and notice
Au pair holidays are recommended as 4 weeks holiday per 12 month period and, if necessary, au pairs should be given 2 weeks' notice.
As from September 2010, the British Au Pair Agencies Association (BAPAA) recommends au pair holidays should be 4 weeks holiday per 12 month period. Pocket money should be paid during this time. Au pair holidays for shorter placements are calculated on a pro-rata basis.
If the family decides to go on holiday without taking the au pair with them, the au pair must be paid during their absence and given enough money to provide for food.
The family cannot insist that that the au pair takes holiday to coincide with their own, although this often works out by mutual agreement. UK bank and national holidays should be given as free time.
Should there be a good reason to ask an au pair to leave, 2 weeks' notice should be given. If there has been a misdemeanour and it is not acceptable for the au pair to continue to stay in the family's house, the agency will advise how best to handle the situation.
